Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP): These are systems that give support to the appropriate use of resources in companies. These systems are the result of some other tools that gave support to organizations in the 60’s for budget management, incomes and outcomes control and conscious and correct administration of general resources, in order to get their commercial goals in shorter time and with more efficiency. ERP antecessors were material requirements planning (MRP) and manufacturing resources planning (MRP II)

Today ERP seeks to have a holistic view of the business:

Today, ERP systems are generally more sophisticated, and more effective in supporting multiple functional and business units, including but not limited to, accounting and finance, sales and operations planning, order management, purchasing, supply chain management, manufacturing, human resources management, and customer relationship management (Law, 2019).

On the whole, these are information and communication management systems that strengthen the integrated work of all the production, in order to have all the decisions based in solid perspectives about the business and its possibilities. Its main benefits are “to help the company realize the benefits of eliminating data entry errors, reducing order fulfilment cost and cycle time, enabling speedy delivery of goods and services, and raising customer satisfaction levels” (Law, 2019).
