What is Low-Code software and why is it important for your business?

In October 2021, Forbes, a firm dedicated to technology journalism and its advances in terms of business solutions and related topics, published an article in which it unveiled a new way of thinking about software development. This is known as Low-Code software and consists of providing previously unthinkable facilities for users and developers. The fundamental idea is that with this new modality almost anyone will be able to develop applications and functionalities, since it does not require advanced knowledge of programming and programming codes.

Forbes presented Low-Code in this way:

Have you ever studied programming so much that you saw code lines in your dreams? You’re lucky if you haven’t gone that far. Otherwise, we have ambiguous news for you: On the one hand, your hard-earned programming skills may soon become fairly obsolete, but on the other hand, the whole programming process may become more like a cakewalk, so you’ll be able to develop more digital products in less time. This development, of course, makes a big difference to the way we do business as well, because it means enabling technology for a whole set of people who previously felt unable to use the solutions, let alone develop them, to improve their working conditions. It is a way of democratizing access to technology to achieve a more level playing field.

Moreover, statistics already showed at the time that this trend would continue to grow and get consolidated in the world:

For example, Webflow, a no-code software company, raised $140 million in Series B, so its market value exceeded $2 billion. Another no-code platform, Bubble, generated $100 million in Series A funding, and the value of business services they produced exceeded $1 billion. All that indicates a strong interest in no-code and low-code development solutions that minimize the efforts and resources required to create new applications. (forbes.com)

At the same time, Gartner research clearly showed the same trends:

Gartner, Inc. predicts a paradigm shift. By 2023, “citizen developers” — technically minded line-of-business (LOB) users — will outnumber engineers four to one. As such, in 2022, low-code technology, which gives non developers the power to close the gaps in their existing tech estate and accelerate the pace of their operations, will continue to become more prominent. As citizen automators self-service their day-to-day challenges, they’ll also alleviate their IT team’s backlog. IT will then focus on more strategic priorities.. forbes.com)

Low-Code companies

From this, at least two things are clear: on the one hand, the trend of more and more solutions made from Low-Code will continue to grow and there will be new options in the market according to the needs of users; on the other hand, it is also seen that the technologization of businesses, their digitization and automation will increase hand in hand with Low-Code.

This allows us to understand why it is so important that all companies that want to maintain levels of quality and competitiveness begin to investigate more and more about the possibilities and the best options to introduce technological changes in their operations, because technology is not only advancing, but it is democratizing and the possibility of optimizing business with software will not be exclusive to a few businesses.

Low-code platforms will give teams across the organization the power to close gaps in their tech estate. Second, teams will completely transform their tech stack from an endless source of pain due to hard-coded limitations from each individual application (and mounting technical debt with each new acquisition) to a modular, infinitely adjustable toolset. All of this also implies that businesses must carefully review the implementation of these technologies, since all sectors of the company must carry it out in parallel and there must always be a clear integration between the activities of all the processes of the operation. Without this, no matter how much technology is introduced, you will not see a real improvement in the operation, but rather confusion or delays.

The complete automation enabled by the Dexon Business Process Management Suite, our business software, seeks a perfect integration of all the activities of the organization and with that a harmonious introduction of all the functionalities and platforms used, whether Low-Code or not. We know the state of business today and therefore we know that it is necessary to have a tool that allows the interaction of all types of programs and functions, and that is also easy to use and has a clear basis in the knowledge of how the company works as a whole.
